The Lights of the Cyclades
From "Latina today" of 14 May 1993

Vanni

“I love these places made of white, of sun, of harsh and ancient images like the land where the Gods lived, giving paganism to the men of that time and to us the regret of the past”, says Vanni. In this series of works, the artist, through his unmistakable pictorial style, conveys the vibrant colors and harshness of the Mediterranean islands where he spent long periods of study of light. Here are the disconnected roads, the steep climbs, the women with sunburned skin, curves on the back of donkeys that climb towards the top of villages or rocky hills. Then ... the deep and immense sea that surrounds everything. All this makes us discover a pride and a nobility that date back to the mists of time but that are so true and close to us are revealed thanks to a realistic painting that starts from symbolism to reach us.
